If you have recently purchased a home, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. If you are a surviving spouse of a deceased homeowner, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. If disabled or over 65, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. If for any reason your application is denied, you can appeal.

Texas offers a variety of exemptions from appraised property values used to determine local property taxes. A partial exemption removes a percentage or a fixed dollar amount of a property’s value from taxation. A total (absolute) exemption excludes the entire property from taxation.
